In order to stay safe and avoid injuries to stay active, it is important to be proactive and follow some simple guidelines. Here at Active Health & Wellness Center, we have put together a list of 7 Guidelines for Injury Prevention. If you follow these tips, you are much more likely to stay safe and healthy!

Guideline # 1

Maintaining good nutrition is one of the most important things you can do for your body, especially if you are an athlete. Eating a balanced diet helps to ensure that your body has all of the nutrients it needs to perform at its best. It is also important to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids – water is always the best choice!

Guideline # 2

Warm up and cool down properly before and after physical activity. A proper warm-up will help to increase blood flow to your muscles and prepare them for activity. Cooling down allows your heart rate and blood pressure to return to normal gradually. It is also important to stretch both before and after exercise in order to prevent injuries.

Guideline # 3

Be sure to listen to your body and know your limits. If you are feeling pain, fatigue, or dizziness, it is important to stop what you are doing and rest. Pushing yourself too hard can lead to serious injuries.

Wear the proper gear for whatever activity you are participating in. This includes everything from shoes to helmets and protective pads. Wearing the right gear will help to protect you from injury if you do happen to fall or have an accident.
